Application Aeroshell Grease 33

For many years aircraft operators have been seeking to rationalise the greases used on aircraft and to reduce the number of different greases in their inventories. Recently Boeing began research on a new, general purpose, corrosion-inhibiting grease. The aim was for a non-clay based grease that would provide longer life for components and mechanisms and possess improved wear and corrosion resistance. This led to the introduction of the new Boeing Specification BMS 3-33. Owing to the wide range of operating temperatures, loads and other environmental conditions required for various aircraft components, several different types of grease with different desirable properties are used during routine lubrication of aircraft components. Boeing, in developing their BMS 3-33 specification, took account of the properties of the different grease types used on aircraft and wrote a specification for a grease which would provide improved performance and which could be used in the widest possible range of grease applications. AeroShell Grease 33 is approved to BMS 3-33C and offers the improved performance properties required by this specification. AeroShell Grease 33 can be used for routine lubrication on Boeing aircraft where MIL-PRF-23827C or BMS 3-24 is specified. AeroShell Grease 33 can also be used in some applications on Boeing aircraft which require use of MIL-G21164. Other applications on Boeing aircraft which require use of MIL-G-21164 and other greases are being reviewed and in due course Boeing will issue details of the full range of applications. For the current status, refer to the latest issue of Boeing Service Letter "BMS 3-33C General Purpose Aircraft Grease". AeroShell Grease 33 can be used for routine lubrication in applications where MIL-PRF-23827C is specified on aircraft manufactured by McDonnell Douglas, Airbus, BAe Regional Aircraft, Canadair, Lockheed, Embraer, Fokker and Gulfstream (except for wheel bearings, applications above 121°C and sliding applications requiring molybdenum disulphide). Other aircraft manufacturers are evaluating AeroShell Grease 33 with the aim of approving it for use on their aircraft. Operators should regularly check with these manufacturers for the latest status. Application Aeroshell Turbine Oil 390

AeroShell Turbine Oil 390 was developed primarily as an improved 3 mm2 /s oil for British turbo-jet engines. AeroShell Turbine Oil 390 is fully approved for a wide range of turbine engines. · More recently, because of the low temperature characteristics of AeroShell Turbine Oil 390, there is interest in using this oil in auxiliary power units (APU) in order to overcome the effects of cold soak. Normal practice is to shut down the APU during cruise, the APU then experiences cold soak, often prolonged, and when the unit is started there is considerable difficulty resulting in the unit not coming up to speed in the given time, thus causing a hung start. In such cases where the APU is subject to a long cold soak the viscosity of standard 5 mm2 /s oils used in the APU will increase from 5 mm2 /s at 100°C to typically 10,000 mm2 /s at –40°C . At this much higher viscosity the oil cannot flow easily leading to a large viscous drag within the APU, thereby contributing to the difficulty in starting. AeroShell Turbine Oil 390 on the other hand experiences a much smaller viscosity increase (typically 2000 mm2 /s at –40°C ) with a reduction in viscous drag which is often sufficient to overcome hung start problems. All experience to date shows a considerable improvement in cold reliability of the APU when AeroShell Turbine Oil 390 is used.

BioTac MPTM has been developed primarily for use on exposed marine deck applications and combines excellent physical properties that enable resistance to both mechanical shear and water spray-off with an additive system developed to protect exposed components from corrosion, oxidation and the effects of load, friction and wear. BioTac MPTM is intended for use in a wide range of applications including plain bearings, wire ropes and open gears typically found in marine mooring and cargo winches. Furthermore, ramp door bearings, pedestal bearings and cargo hatch rollers are also examples of slow/medium speed marine deck applications for which BioTac MPTM is ideally suited. As solvent and detergent: Klüberalfa XZ 3-1 may be used to clean friction points prior to the application of PFPE products such as BARRIERTA L55/2. When used on clean surfaces, both the adhesion and the performance of such lubricants are significantly improved. To attain optimum lubrication results, we recommend cleaning the friction point prior to initial application first with white spirit 180/210 and then with Klüberalfa XZ 3-1. Prior to initial lubrication, the friction point should be bright (i.e. free of any residues) and free of dirt particles. As a dispersant: PFPE greases dispersed with Klüberalfa XZ 3-1 are used for minimum-quantity lubrication of bearings, chains, small gears, seals and many other components. With Klüberalfa XZ 3-1, the active substance content in dispersions of the Klüberalfa product family can be adjusted to individual needs without difficulty. Due to its high dispersive capacity, Klüberalfa XZ 3-1 is used as a flushing fluid to remove used PFPE grease from components that are difficult to clean. The cleaned surfaces remain free of grease and bright. It may be advisable to protect them against corrosion after cleaning. Food-processing and pharmaceutical industries: Klüberalfa XZ 3-1 is NSF H1 registered and therefore complies with FDA 21 CFR § 178.3570. The product was developed for incidental contact with products and packaging materials in the food-processing, cosmetics, pharmaceutical or animal feed industries. The use of Klüberalfa XZ 3-1 can contribute to increase reliability of your production processes. We nevertheless recommend conducting an additional risk analysis, e.g. HACCP.

This contributes to a reduction of oil consumption and clean compressed air; gumming of pneumatic valves in the compressed air circuit can be prevented as well due to the low oil content of the Klüber Summit SH oils.
